Artist Name: Venla Vang

What do you consider yourself? Artist, illustrator, painter, designer, other?

I would like to say I’m a self-taught arts and craft artist. ^^

What kinds of work do you currently do or projects you have done in the past?

I currently work with polymer clay, resin, sewing, and digital illustrations.

Could you talk about how you got into art or doing what you do today? What’s your story? What made you want to pursue this path? Were there any challenges you had along the way?

I grew up LOVE doing anything involving art.  You see though, I was never an artist.  I loved art but when I took art class, it took me TWICE as long to finish or just have an idea of what to do for an art project. I envied all the other kids in art class so bad that they make stick figures so CUTE!  It really just took lots and lots of practice. I still struggle now a days on how to make my art cuter or more of “my style.” ^o^

Did you attended art school or majored/minored in Art or Design in college? If so, what were your experiences with it and did you think it helped you become a better artist? If you did not attended college or attended but did not majored in anything art-related, what helped pushed you to pursue art or improve your craft?

Nope. I did not.  I did not major in art nor did I major or minor in art at all. I kind of wished I did though.  If I could go back in time to do something, I would go back to art school. But its okay. I’m happy with what I’m doing now even though I don’t have an art degree. (^0^)

How do you balance art with work and life? How do you make time for art?

I find myself most creative during late at night.  I get most of my projects or get that spark of inspirations during those quiet moments when everyone is asleep and dreaming about unicorns and ice cream.

Do you make money from your art? If so, how?

Yes, I do. I sell my creations when I attend arts and crafts events and list them on my online shops.

Where do you get your ideas from?

I have this obsession with everything that is cute and kawaii! As long as they’re pastel color, adorable, glittery, nature, sea-life, MERMAID-like, or cute and kawaii in general, my light bulbs start lighting up like Christmas lights!

What kinds of tools do you use to make your work? What is your typical artistic process like?

I have LOTS and LOTS of tools. So. . . . many. . . . *cricket cricket*

I have clay tools, paint brushes, glitters, clay, paint easel, exact-o knives, super glue, pasta machine, pliers, you name it.  If you came to my room and needed a tool to fix something, there’s a high chance that I probably have it. (^0^)

Are there any artists you look up to or find inspiring?

YESSS! Sooooo many. I follow most of the inspiring artists on Instagram.

Do you have any favorite books, apps, movies, resources, or art tools that you recommend?

I LOVE Instagram and Pinterest.  I go there all the time to find my inspirations. IF you follow me on Pinterest, I have TONS of BOARDS with inspirations.  I’m completely crazy about creating boards for all my inspirations. Haha.

Is there any advice you would like to give to young artists or people just starting out?

If you like and enjoy doing art, keep doing it. You never know where it will take you nor where you will take it.  It’s going to be a long journey and you might feel like giving up sometime or think it’s a waste of money but if you truly love it and enjoy it, keep doing it. At the end of the day, it’s what keeps you going so it’s a win-win.

Who would you like to collaborate/work with or work for, if anybody? Could be a person, another artist, or company.

My dream is to be able to work with or for Pixar, Sanrio, Studio Ghibli! *Ahem ahem* It’s where most of inspiration comes from too. ^^

What is your ultimate dream project or something you’ll like to accomplish in your lifetime (could be art or non-art related)?

Ooo. . . .there are a few dream projects I would love to get it rolling or make it go further.

I need to get my PATREON going further.  I’ve started it a few months ago, but I don’t mention it enough in my social medias.

I want to be able to give out more and involve my supporters through there and be closer to them on there so I can offer them more for their never-ending support and love for my creations.

My ultimate dream is to be able to make people’s heart warm and have them smile and stop in the midst of their walking when they glimpse at my creations.

Are there any current projects that you’re working on or in the near future that you want to tell us about?

My long term project for now is trying to find a place where I can get my designs on clothes and merchandises where it will be affordable for everyone to purchase if they admire my type of art.

What is the best way to get a hold of you or view or purchase your work?

I am most active on Instagram and Facebook: @officialvenlaa

I post most of my projects/creations on there!

I’m also trying to involve and build a better relationship with my supporters through my PATREON. It’s where my supporters can get more freebies and/or ask and be more interactive with me.
